In the heart of Borneo, a tiny Sun Bear cub named Andrea is beginning a new chapter—one that wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of wildlife rescuers and the generosity of supporters like you.
Alone in the Wild: Andrea’s Ordeal
At just two months old, Andrea was found alone in an industrial forest plantation, frightened, fragile, and weighing less than 22 lbs. She should have been by her mother’s side, learning how to forage, climb, and survive in the wild. Instead, she was orphaned due to habitat destruction and human encroachment, a devastating reality for many Sun Bear cubs.
Sun Bears are facing increasing threats from deforestation, poaching, and the illegal wildlife trade. Andrea’s story is one of survival, but she is just one of many who desperately need protection.
A Tragic Start, A Hopeful Future
Andrea’s story begins like that of many Sun Bear cubs who fall victim to the illegal wildlife trade. It is believed that poachers killed her mother, leaving her defenseless and in desperate need of help. At just a few months old, she has already faced more hardship than any living creature should.
Thanks to the dedicated team at our partner organization, Borneo Orangutan Survival, Andrea was rescued and brought to one of their rehabilitation sanctuaries, Samboja Lestari, where she is receiving round-the-clock care, a specialized diet, and survival training. Despite her ordeal, Andrea has shown incredible resilience, gradually gaining weight and regaining the confidence to explore her surroundings.
However, the fight for her future isn’t over. Sun Bear cubs like Andrea require a proper rehabilitation facility to ensure they have the space and care they need to grow into strong, independent bears. Right now, that facility doesn’t exist.

The Importance of Specialized Care for Sun Bear Cubs
Sun Bears are the smallest of the Bear species, but what they lack in size, they make up for in intelligence, curiosity, and energy. Bear cubs like Andrea need a safe, nurturing space to grow, develop essential survival skills, and one day reclaim their place in the wild. That’s why Asia Wild is partnering with BOS Foundation to build a specialized cub house—a secure, enriching environment designed specifically for rescued Sun Bear cubs. With your support, we can give them the best chance at rehabilitation and a future where they belong: in the wild.
This cub house will provide Andrea and other orphaned Sun Bear cubs with:
⭐ A Safe Space: A secure area where they can explore, play, and develop natural behaviors.
⭐ Climbing Structures: To help build strength and coordination.
⭐ Enrichment Activities: Encouraging natural foraging and problem-solving skills.
⭐ Proper Veterinary Care: Ensuring they receive the medical attention they need to thrive.
How You Can Help Save Sun Bears Like Andrea
Andrea’s story is heartbreaking, but it is also one of hope. With your help, she and other rescued Sun Bear cubs can have the chance to heal, grow, and one day, return to the wild where they belong.
